The story focuses on the Dutton family's journey westward many years ago, crossing the Great Plains to the last wild land of the United States, seeking a better future in the promised land of Montana. Elliott plays Shea Brennan, a tough cowboy with a very sad past. He takes on the arduous task of leading a group of people from Texas to Montana and will not tolerate fools. McGraw and Hill play the male and female parents of the Dutton family, James and Margaret. Taylor Sheridan, the creator of "Yellowstone", serves as the executive producer of the show, which will be launched on the Paramount streaming platform.
