The play focuses on the defense of Wanghai, telling the moving story of Xiao Han, a Communist Party member, who returns to his hometown Wanghai on orders from his superiors. With the help of his childhood friend Lin Yuzhu and other fellow travelers who share the same faith, he successfully forms an independent armed force led by the Communist Party to defend Wanghai.
