The story of "Towards Happiness" takes place in the late 1990s. At the beginning of the market economy, the old industrial base in Northeast China inevitably encountered bottlenecks and difficulties. Xiang Qianjin and Gao Lihua, who worked in a large state-owned factory, were laid off at the same time. Instead of complaining about the world, they began to find new jobs with the optimistic nature of Northeastern people. After several years of hard work, Xiang Qianjin established a joint-stock logistics company. After Gao Lihua failed in selling clothes, she started a newsstand and worked hand in hand with her husband to make a living. In the most difficult times, the couple still upheld their kindness, insisted on adopting a sick baby girl, and took care of the paralyzed old man.
