Plot:
The play tells the legendary life of Empress Dowager Feng of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the first female reformer with outstanding political achievements in Chinese history. The story takes place during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, when the Northern Wei Dynasty in the north was in power during the reign of Emperor Taiwu. In the tenth year of Taiping Zhenjun, Emperor Taiwu issued an edict ordering General Feng Miao to lead troops to conquer Rouran. Minister Yi Hun strongly opposed it on the grounds that Feng Miao was a surrendered general. Zuo Zhaoyi Feng Gu came forward to support General Feng Miao, and Emperor Taiwu finally decided that Feng Miao would still lead the troops to the expedition. Feng Miao was defeated and surrendered. The furious Emperor Taiwu sent Yi Hun to kill the Feng family. Feng Gu's brother Feng Lang was also sentenced to death. Feng Lang's son Feng Xi escaped to the Qiang tribe and his life was saved. Feng Lang's daughter Feng Shuyi went through many twists and turns, and finally entered the palace as a little slave. The young Feng Shuyi was smart and clever, and later became the companion of the young prince Tuoba Jun. In 452 AD, Tuoba Jun, who was only 13 years old, became the emperor and became Emperor Wencheng in history. Feng Shuyi was selected as a noble lady and eventually became the empress who was the mother of the country. Rouran invaded the Northern Wei Dynasty. Emperor Wencheng proposed a martial arts competition to select generals. Empress Feng took the opportunity to recall her brother Feng Xi who was hiding in the Qiang tribe. At the martial arts competition, Hua Mulan and Feng Xi, who dressed as men and joined the army for their father, stood out. In the end, Feng Xi was appointed as the vanguard. He led his troops to fight against the Rouran army and won a great victory. The Feng brothers and sisters finally washed away the shame of the Feng family. Emperor Wencheng planned to build the Yungang Grottoes. Tan Yao, who was supported by Empress Feng, was finally ordered to excavate the Buddhist caves. When Emperor Wencheng died, Empress Feng jumped into the sea of fire during the fire sacrifice, but was fortunately rescued by the attendant Li Yi. With the help of the ministers, Empress Dowager Feng eliminated Yu Hun, who was plotting to usurp power. After the young Emperor Xianwen ascended to the throne, Empress Feng was honored as Empress Dowager Feng and ruled the country for the first time. When Emperor Xianwen grew up, Empress Dowager Feng returned power to the court and began to teach the crown prince Tuoba Hong wholeheartedly. In 471 AD, the 5-year-old Emperor Xiaowen Tuoba Hong ascended the throne. In 476 AD, Empress Dowager Feng took power for the second time. Empress Dowager Feng was an open-minded politician. She encouraged Emperor Xiaowen to reform and enrich the country and strengthen the army. Under the guidance and full support of Empress Feng, Emperor Xiaowen promulgated and implemented the "Three Chiefs System" and the "Equal Field System". Inspired by these reform measures, the Northern Wei Dynasty became increasingly powerful, and the economy and culture had unprecedented development.
